How to Add Value to Your Freelance Services (and Raise Your Rates as a Result)

One of the most common questions I get from freelancers is:

“How can I raise my rates?”

The issue I see is that a lot of freelancers are charging by the hour; they’re basically exchanging their time for money.

The problem is, there’s only so many hours in a day.

And the truth is, that charging hourly is probably holding you back from earning more.

You see, charging hourly isn’t great for you or your clients. From your side, the quicker and more experienced you get at what you do, the less you’ll be paid (makes sense…. not).

And, from the client side, it’s far more comfortable knowing the cost of a project up front rather than face the possibility of it dragging on for ages with the price going up and up and up every hour.

But what’s the alternative?

Value-based pricing. This essentially means you’re pricing your services based on the value you’re offering.

Think about it:

If a designer is creating a website for a corporate company they are potentially creating a money making machine. The website might bring the company $$$$$$ over a year-long period. If the designer only charged $ to…
